Day 230 | January 11

Despite not having much work to do today I somehow managed to burn up the whole day working. I went over to Work&Go mid-morning to get started. I had lunch across the way at Burger Town with a fellow Remote so we could discuss the long-term future of the human race. Then it was back to work. I came across a place that does kayaking day trips on the Amazon and I’ve been trying to get a trip together but I can’t, for the life of me, actually get a hold of these guys. …so I worked on that for a bit. Went for a spur of the moment beer with another Remote at Chelarte and then that turned into a steak dinner at La Brasserie. ..kind of a high calorie day.

Day 229 | January 10

Woke up early today and did some work at home before heading over to Work&Go. I didn’t have much to do so I intended to just work for a couple of hours and then go explore the city. However, I got caught up in a project I’ve been working on for weeks and with the end of that in sight I decided to just power through and at least finish the first half of it. By then it was evening so I had dinner at Gaspar which was excellent and, like everything in Colombia, crazy cheap. After that we had a speed networking event with locals which was really fun too. Uber is illegal here even though it still operates… So I met a group of folks working on getting a legal equivalent to Uber off the ground. The other standout was these two guys who had a 3D printing/design outfit. I think the whole 3D printing thing is really cool so it was interesting to talk to them too.

Day 228 | January 9

In my first week in Colombia it has been put to me by several Colombians that they have “a lot” of holidays. The whole of last week was basically a holiday for Christmas/New Years(?) and just when it seemed like things were picking up there was another one today for epiphany. Sadly this meant that there was no free coffee at our office today. That wouldn’t really be a problem were it not for the sad fact that the coffee was locked up so we couldn’t even make it ourselves. On top of which, basically the whole town was closed. As a result I had a very American oriented day and got coffee at Starbucks and food at Subway. Somehow a fellow Remote even managed to get coffee delivered to the office later in the day which was a real lifesaver. With most things closed it ended up being a pretty quiet day, but I did get a lot of work done.

Day 227 | January 8

Especially when we are in cities the size of Bogota I’m always surprised to run into people I know. Strolling around in search of a cafe to work from this morning I spotted a couple of friends at Al Agua Patos and ended up stopping in to have brunch with them. After hanging out there for awhile we decided to keep the brunch train going and went over to The Click Clack Hotel where they do a really neat all day brunch buffet that includes unlimited mimosas. Plus they had great WiFi so we were all able to “digital nomad” it up while we were there as well. After about… five or six hours of brunch I decided to head back home and worked a bit and watched a movie before dozing off.

Day 226 | January 7

After a late night last night I got a late start today. I attempted to so some work but after a long week I didn’t have much motivation and I happened to observe that the second season of Man in the High Castle was out on Amazon and… that’s basically how I spent the whole day.

Day 225 | January 6

Had some early morning work to do so worked at home for a bit before setting out to find a cafe or some new scenery to work around. Ended up at Oma which had a nice setting and a patio across from the park but the food was overwhelming and the WiFi was spotty so I just headed over to Work&Go for the rest of the day. A big pack of us was going out to dinner that night and I stopped at one of Bogota Beer Company’s nine million locations on the way to Bandido Bistro. This place was great. Nice setting, live music, good cocktails. Closed that place down and then called it a night.

Day 224 | January 5

Started the day heading over to Work & Go to keep working but en route I lost motivation for that plan. I’d been sitting in there for three days and needed a change of pace so I deviated south to the Parque 93 area to look for a cafe to work from. I came across Azahar Cafe which had a very nice outdoor set up, good WiFi and coffee. Also apparently a hot spot for Remotes as many of us swung through during the day. Later on I did head back to Work & Go to kill some time before dinner. In the evening I went to Bruto with some folks which was excellent. Great space, good food and live music from time to time I’m told.

Day 223 | January 4

This was another day of uneventful, head down, working. Woke up early, headed to the work space and powered through until evening. I finally finished the major thing I had been working on; three days all distilled down to a single graph. After that three day slog I was tired and hungry so I went to this really neat Italian place, La Fabbrica for dinner and was in bed by nine. Wild times.

Day 222 | January 3

Today was another very work oriented day. I just headed over to Work & Go to power through and I didn’t stop until our welcome event in the evening. There’s always something at these and this one featured some crazy local dancers. We had another birthday today so after that I swung by Vaqueritos 82 to have a birthday drink and then ducked into La Villa next door to say Hi to the folks hanging out there. Despite this I still managed to call it a pretty early night since there’s still a lot of work on the docket for tomorrow.

Day 221 | January 2

The beginning of the year always leaves me extremely motivated to get after things… I mean for a few days at least. So today I was up and down to Work & Go, where we are working in Bogota. It’s a nice spot but not as dramatically cool as some of our prior stops. Traveling and not working so much in the past election cycle left me resolved to find something to fill my dance card in the near term. As luck would have it as I was taken care of other things something that fit the bill literally fell in my lap. Trying to make sure this new project actually gets off the ground as left me extremely busy. So much so that I powered through all day until it was time to head over to Bogota Beer Company to celebrate the birth of The Duze.
