Day 361 | May 22

I just realized the cross into the Day 360’s. Things are coming to an end and today would really bring that home. I spent the day catching up on work from home. In the evening we had our formal farewell dinner. I really have to hand it to everyone who worked on this. We rented out a really nice house with a great yard, had it catered by a great chef, some of our team made these great yearbooks for everyone, others put together video montages or songs. All of this looking back over the year started to break through some of my denial about this adventure coming to an end. That coupled with all of the extra wine that Stacey and I stole at dinner (whoops) ended up making this one of my more drunk nights of the year. After the dinner a bunch of us went out to a couple of bars and kept things going until the wee hours of the morning. I know it won’t mean as much to those who weren’t there but here are some looks at my past year.

If you only watch one.

Incredible diligence by Stephan.

Finally something a little more upbeat

Day 336 | April 27

Another day of working was broken up by some great news. The long shot chance that my passport would make it back to me in Cordoba paid off and it turned back up at the office. The real win here is that I didn’t lose any of my hard won stamps!

Day 252 | February 2

Another work oriented day but I decided to stick around the apartment today since I live so far away from everything. Strolled down to Starbucks to get some coffee for the day and endure some ridicule for going to American places while visiting Colombia. …but there’s nothing else near me! Worked from home for the rest of the day and then had a couple of events in the evening. Went to Cafe Honesto, which is a really cool place, for a talk and tasting of coffees. The highlight of which, though, was these cheese… corn things that I freakin’ loved and will no doubt annoy everyone with my ravings about. Grabbed some sandwiches to-go next door at Bestia which were also quite good and then headed out for the first night of Tejo league. Tejo is… way more fun than I anticipated. It’s basically corn-hole but with explosions. I had to leave early, though, to come home and pack and rest before heading out to a weekend of Bachelor partying in New Orleans. …my life is pretty tough.

Day 9 | June 4

Today was our “Big Day” orientation for the entire year. I was initially ambivalent about attending but I did and I was very glad of it. In addition to the usual orientation activities everyone introduced themselves and it was great to get another round of reinforcement as to who everyone is! After that I tried to come home and work but ended up dozing off instead. We had our first lost cell phone in the Uber we took back to the place so we had to track that down. Later in the evening we had our welcome party at K10 which was awesome and included a great bar and food and a traditional “Czech Easter Egg Hunt.” After that we tried to have a low key evening back at our apartment building but that didn’t pan out and one of our apartments was destroyed. Glossing over that… we took care of things and then I went upstairs to finally go to sleep.

Day 8 | June 3

Beginning to sense that it’s going to be hard to keep up with daily updates. Hopefully I can backtrack and fix these this weekend. Another late start to the day after a late night. I had lunch at the Blue Wagon which is an excellent restaurant just two blocks down from my place. Headed in to our K10 work space to do some work after that and got thrown a curve ball which left me under the gun for the rest of the day. After racing out of the office after that I managed to get home in time to change and head over to the State Opera to see Tosca with some of the other members of my group. After the opera we went to dinner at Como and then I attempted to call it an early evening at the crack of… 1am.

Day 6 | June 1

After a night that escalated rather quickly I slept in this morning. I had a lot of work today so I headed over to K10 as soon as I had pulled myself together and basically settled in to work all day. In the evening, though, we headed back to Dlouha and did a whole row of shops. The first was a butcher shop/restaurant that I can’t remember the name of. It was a great place in that you could order cuts of meat to take home but they’d also grill them for you to eat there if you liked. Then we went next door for cigars and scotch at La Casa Del Habano and then went next door again to La Casa Argentina for steaks and wine.
