Day 164 | November 6

Our last day in Rabat was an early one as we all had to meet at the office at 6am to board shuttles to the airport in Casablanca, an hour away. The Casablanca airport is a nightmare to navigate as they have no signs up and, of course, those that they do have posted aren’t generally in English. Made it through, though, and it was just a short flight to Madrid. Being in an European airport left me with a big weight off my shoulders but we had to hustle to catch our connection to Valencia. Stepping off the plane in Valencia into cooler weather was also a huge relief. In the evening I walked through old town to a craft beer place, Tyris on Tap where we all celebrated our arrival. Several beers, dancing in the street and some kebabs was just what I needed after being in Rabat for a month.

Day 163 | November 5

Slow start to the day after our farewell party last night. This was our last day in Rabat so it was filled with the usual last day activities. Mostly just packing, getting rid of the few things I’d accumulated in Rabat and getting assembled for our early start in the morning. Nothing too exciting there.

Day 162 | November 4

Headed over to 7AY to work during the day. In the evening we were having our farewell to Rabat party. I went to grab some food before heading out to this but then afterwards I wasn’t feeling very well. While standing waiting for a car to take me home a car with two friends on their way to the party rolled up and told me to hop in. So I ended up on my way to the party anyway. This event was about 20 minutes out of town on a farm and down dirt roads that GPS couldn’t seem to navigate so getting there was an adventure. I’m glad that I rallied, though, because it was very fun. Afterwards we all piled back into cars and went into town to some African music club to close that place down as well. Wish I could remember the name of that place now.

Day 161 | November 3

Today we went to a coffee meeting at the U.S. embassy to mix and mingle with some folks in the Moroccan entrepreneur community. It was a cool event but also a cool thing for the embassy to be working on. Still being highly busy with the approach of the election I couldn’t linger as long as I’d hoped and had to head over to 7AY to dig in for the day. Worked late that day after getting caught on conference calls and that was about the extent of it.

Day 160 | November 2

Headed over to 7AY after a late night to work and attend some of our usual periodic meetings about the upcoming move to Valencia. In the end I’ve really gotten to like Morocco but I’m certainly ready to be getting back to Europe. With the election closing in things have continued to get busier for me and I’ve had to spend time on the phone back with folks in America… and everyone knows how much I hate talking on the phone. In the evening sent out for a dinner reprieve at the Sofitel (after deciding not to go downtown because protests were snarling traffic) with another member of our group who couldn’t wait to get out of Morocco and made a spur of the moment decision to flee the country the next day. Another standard Morocco day.

Day 159 | November 1

Headed over to 7AY to work for the whole day. Despite not really being involved this year I’ve gotten really busy as we have closed in on the Election. In the evening a group of us went to La Table du Réservoir which had good food, live latin music and then transitioned to a DJ later in the evening. I had our very famous Careem driver on the way home and that led to a very necessary stop at the Rabat Burger King before crashing.

Day 155 | October 28

Another uneventful day as I struggled to go into the weekend with a fully completed task list. Spent the whole day at 7AY. As we get closer to the election my inbox has been blowing up so I wasn’t even able to get much actual work done. After a solid twelve hours I was finally too burnt out to be productive so I went home and crashed.
